401K

October 29th, 2009 at 02:59 pm

I had my 401k turned off earlier in the year because I was following Dave Ramsey advice of getting out of debt. But luckily after carefully watching the market and realizing that I was loosing out of my employers match contributions, I turned my 401k back on mid summer. Now I am glad that I did because market jumped back up and to the Dow did hit 10000 again..well at least for a little while and I did see profit of 35% of my investments. But if the market does go again I figure I still a long time before I will ever need it.

That's one part of his plan I wouldn't do.

I agree that free money would lead me to the same conclusion. It's always nice to have those kinds of benefits from an employer (along with health insurance, etc.), and I'm glad you take advantage of them.

Yeah, I also would not pass up any match to 401K, the low amount that is saved to be matched really will not make that much of a dent to the debt snowball in most cases.

I am interested in seeing your sidebar updated so we can tell what kind of progress you are making on your debt.
